How to apply for an extension of a Russian Visa?
The duration of your stay in Russia can be extended for more than 1 year by elongating your Russian Visa. With the mandatory instructions of the University Administration, your visa may be expanded for less than 1 year.
You can expand a Single- entry visa and multiple-entry visa.
Submit documents to extend your visa
To expand your visa, make sure you have a full set of relevant documents and defer them to the passport and Visa department not too soon than 90 days and not in advance 45 calendar days before the expiry date of your visa.
Be prepared with the following documents listed below:
Your Passport: You must have the original passport and the 2 photocopies of your all pages of the original passport. People who are staying in rented penthouses should submit only one set of copies of their passport pages.
passport size photographs: You will require 2 color passport size photos of size 3.5cm x 4.5 cm. In addition, you should have a photocopy of the photo which you have on your passport copy along with the migration card with the passport stamp on it. Make sure you are having these photocopies on A4 size paper with one side left out blank before submitting it to the passport and visa department.
Confirmation of Payment: Make sure you have a confirmation of the state duty payment or you can compensate it at the time of document submission to the passport and Visa department.
Referral Letter: For students, you should have the referral letter announced by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia at the Educational Department which is to be filled in the Visa application form.

The form must be filled out on the computer or you can use a black ink pen to fill out the form.
Use capital/uppercase letters to fill out the form.
Use of ink pens other than black is not permitted.
One should fill out the form yourselves.
In the end, download the Russian visa application form and get the printout on both sides of the paper.
A multiple-entry visa will be prepared within 45 calendar days of submission of the documents to the passport and visa department.
After the submission of the documents for an extension of visa, the migrant must have a confirmation slip issued by the Passport and Visa Department; the migration card, and a photocopy of the original registration. The passport of the applicant will stick with the passport and Visa Department.
Assemble your passport with a multi-entry visa
You can gather your passport with a multi-entry visa at the Department of passport and visa on the date given on the slip issued to you when submitting documents.
You cannot set foot in Russia before the date of entrance given on your visa nor stay in Russia after your visa has expired.
Expand your registration after acquiring your passport with a new visa
Registration of persons staying in the university dormitories is processed by the Department of Passport and visa.
If you are staying in a penthouse, make sure you asked your landlord to extend your registration. The person must register at the place of residence within 3days of acquiring a passport with an extended visa and capitulate the new registration to the Passport and Visa Department.
If a student, postgraduate student, or intern exit from the Russian Federation, after coming back to Russia he/she should appeal for resuming his/her migration registration at the place of residence within 3 working days.

Assemble all documents to expand your migration registration in advance
To expand your registration for more than 1year, make sure you are prepared with the following documents listed below and submit them to Passport and Visa Department not subsequently after 30 days before the expiry date of the registration.
You should have your passport and photocopies of all the pages of the passport.
The original and photocopy of the migration card.
For persons registered as Russian nationals:
The real and certified copy of the registered contract.
For Foreign nationals: A certified copy of the registered contract or you should keep the certified copy of the handing over letter given by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia. For your reference must keep the original copy also it may be requested.
A photocopy of the passport photo page with your information page data and the migration card with the passport stamp on A4 size sheet paper has to be submitted to the Passport and Visa Department.
