Apply for a visa at the Taiwanese representative office in your area by bringing your Admission Letter and other necessary paperwork. Applying for a Resident Visa will allow you to apply for your Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) as soon as you arrive in Taiwan if you want to stay in Taiwan for more than six months. Apply for a visitor visa if your stay in Taiwan will be shorter than six months. But if they want to apply for an ARC, students entering on visitor visas must take additional steps. After enrolling, you must first obtain your student ID before applying for a resident visa and then an alien resident certificate.
If you are already enrolled in a short-term programme in Taiwan, such as Chinese language instruction, you can use your admission letter to request a two-month visa extension at the police bureau. The staff of the Office of International Affairs will assist you in extending this to one year after you receive your student ID card when you enrol in the university.
